Walnut Creek Marina Public Meeting

I got notice from Urban Engineers of the following:

Public Meeting on Planning Study for Walnut Creek Marina Renovation and Expansion
at
Tom Ridge Environmental Center [at the head of the Peninsula]

November 13, 2007

6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

It says the public is invited to attend and offer comment regarding proposed renovation and usage of Walnut Creek Marina.

Representatives of Urban Engineers and the Fish Commission will be there "to provide a project description, explain the project goals and to gain comment from participants on the benefits and drawbacks of the existing facilities."

This would be your chance to offer input before any plans are finalized for changes at the marina!

Myself and two buddies drove up from southwestern Pa. They had engineers and other people there. One room had big color diagrams of some of the design changes. All for the good but most guys thought this was not the only answer. Put the minimum amount of money in to do one of the design changes which included a fish cleaning station, a gas up dock, changes to the ready area and approach to the ramps, I think a store or shop but don't hold me to that one. A few suggestions were improved light in the parking area and also good qualiy security cameras. Also better and higher lighting coming into the creek channel. But the majority said in additiod to that take the millions and build an modern large marina at Elk Creek. Most said that's the bottom line. Any questions ask and I'll try to answer.

Yeah, was there a discussion about expanding the number of slips for the size of the basin itself??

    Walcat,
Thank you for the information. Did they mention any intentions of widening the channel or dredging it deeper ? Wish I could have got off work to attend.

A lot of discussion about them being too small and to tight to get the bigger boats. One of the diagrams showed enlarging the marina to the left as you stand looking down the launch ramps.

Yes, but would have to dig into the bedrock which would cause the walls to be reenforced. Out on the left side going out of the channel, extending the rock wall quite a distance hooking to the right.

Will be another meeting next year. My buddies and I ask if it could be held in the Pittsburgh area this time and also on the weekend so more guys could attend as there is a lot of interest by the guys down here too, not only in Erie.( Price of gas- make it fair for all.)Said they are putting these ideas into their design changes and they appreciate the input as there was a lot of good practical ideas. All this is supposed to be on the hot track to do so say your prayers oldtimers(myself) so we can see it.

Sweet. Hope it happens . If not maybe next year we could all bring our waders & shovels? That should help keep the sand bar from building & our props safe
