Thanks guys. Orange body w/ yellow head has been my most productive, though that's just because that's what I tied the most of. I'm sure any other color scheme would have been equally productive on the small streams.
Bigfoot, how long to you tie that tail? I'm guessing the caribou doesn't flare like elk either, making for a noticeably different profile. Care to post a pic?
Dano, never tried black. Use it for stone adults? Grannoms? I too love the peacock variation. I tie it small (14-16) with a peacock body and head, and gray deer hair tail & wing to imitate the early season stonefly adults. Usually surface action for adult stones is pretty hit or miss, especially in late-March like that, but I always try to have 1 or 2 in my fly box, just in case I see a fish coming up for any downed adults.
Norm, the night before my next steelie trip, I gotta tie up a bunch of glo-bugs, but other than that, I'm good for the winter. Other than spey/dee/salmon flies, I'm looking toward March and April now. Besides, I don't need to tie all those miserable nymphs. Dry or wet...no bottom-bouncing!
