Pymatuning Geese Population

I have been going to Pumatuning hunting for Geese since 1980, the population IMO has fallen alot since early to mid 1990's, not only the population of Geese but also the hunters, I am talking outside the Blinds on public hunting for the hunters, back then I believe the geese numbers were about 10,000, now lucky if there are 2,000 IMO.  What do you Waterfowl hunters think.  John

thats a good fish, they are all good, some are gooder than others

I have hunted pymatuning since mid 70's. Number of Hunters has dropped drastically. Out side the preserve hunting has been very hit and miss the last 10 years and in side preserve if you draw the wrong blind you might as well sit in the parking lot . What can be done -Nothing - Management has been stable and good over the years .Since mid 70's you have only had 2 Managers Kieth Harbaugh and Jerry Bish Both are good solid outdoorsmen. Can't see any blame there .Geese are there or there not .Last year had a very good year hunting around Management building 8 of 10 hunts killed multiple geese over the decoys .This year 0 for 4 . It seems all hunting is in decline . The deer has been very spotty .Rabbits seem down this year. Fishing in Erie has been very poor compared to past years. Guess you just have to get used to taking the good with the Bad.

Thanks Harry, just curious what other hunters think, was in blind 2 on Friday, great spot, but being a blue bird day, the geese never came off the lake until about 11:45 am, very few came off from the lake near the spillway, we lucked out and got 2 about 12:20, would have loved to see what they would of done if it was a rainy day, I usually hunt behind the Admin bldg. the long walk in from the parking lot on 285 or hunt down below near the Barn or field near the lower lake close to the parking lot.  Maybe I will run into you some day, being retired I can pick the not so bluebird days.  Good luck and take care.   John

I gave up on Pymy a long time ago,I can drive 45 min. to 1 hour and kill Geese every day with no crowds and no wardens,OHIO,land of water and never ending corn fields, winter wheat, and cover crops. $ 150 well spent for unlimited fun.
