Is that the farthest the last shot can be from the hook. Say if you run a shot line and the last shot is under the float and you're fishing 5ft. deep. Then would that be illegal?

Leader length when fly fishing is 15 feet including tippet.
Max four feet between last weight and hook.
The scenerio you wrote would be illegal but I have never heard of a boober fisherman busted for it.

Ok so what constitutes a leader. I run about a 2ft. leader thats attatched to a swivel. Usually has a couple split shot on it no closer then 18" from the hook. Then from the swivel I run my shot up my mainline sometimes about 3ft. long depending on how deep the run is. So my last shot would be very close to the float to weight it down. So I guess technically my leader is only 2ft. So is that legal.

by what i read that is perfectly legal. it said leader not exceeding 4'. that is also the way i plan on fishing there. i only been there once so i wanted to make sure. what size hook do you use? i use 18 for steel. i know thats way to small.

I could be wrong, but I believe that there are only 3 counties where the weight has to be above the hook.

I run two sizes when I'm fishing. Low water 14 and stained water 10 I use to use 20's and a single egg in low water but that's more bs then what it's worth. You can hook a ton of fish but generally didn't land many

weight cant be farther than 4 feet away...your last shot on your shot line. you can put a swivel on 18" from you split shot and a 2 ft leader as long as the distance from hook to weight isnt more than 4 ft. and as stated 15 foot tippet for fly fishing. You can also fish with you weight below your hook unless you are fishing oswego, cayuga coujnties and the genesee river (monroe county) from the driving park bridge upstream to the lower falls. Also you cant have more than 1/8th oz weight on an artificial fly...i assume jig/wooly buggers etc. but no restrictions on weight for sinkers and split shot.
