Olcott / Oak Orchard report

Went to Burt Dam Saturday morning, 10/2, worried it may be blown out. Not a good sign when there are only about 15 cars in the lot. The woman at the booth said they have not had a salmon run yet, mostly steelhead so far. I think she was being optamisic. The river was low, and I saw no fish anywhere (although I did not walk up to the dam). Also looked at 12 mile creek, which was really low.

Then went to Oak Orchard. There were a fair number of people at the lot near the dam, and the circus was definitely on at the dam, but below the dam the water was low and clear, and there were not many fish. Mostly an occasional pod of fish here or there. Most were spooked and many were heading the wrong direction. There were some kings and steelhead mixed in. The further down from the dam I walked the fewer people and fewer fish there were. I did not go down the club area to see what that looked like.
