caRaystown panfish

hey guys we are taking a camping trip to raystown this weekend, some of my buddies would like to have a fish fry one night.  I have never fished there before but know we are camping at the very south end of the lake.  Is there any good bluegills or crappie to be had here?

Have to disagree about that. If you know the lake, crappies can be caught all year. They dont stop feeding in the summer. Guys just stop fishing for them when it gets tougher to find them. Get a lake map and study it. Look for the areas where they spawn, then look for dropoffs close by, with wood or rock nearby. The crappies will suspend over that open water. Also look for blowdowns that are over or near deeper water. There's fish in those trees. May be bluegills, but there's fish in those trees. Use small jigs tipped with maggots or nibbles and you should get enough for a fishfry.

Chauncy, I know that they don't stop feeding in the summer but the EXTREME boat trip shuts them up. That lake is trouble in the summer months with jet ski and skiers. I can catch them all year around down there but it is just easier in the spring as you know. I was down there today and caught 31 crappies between the 2 of us. Keep a dozen for the frying pan that where 10" and over. There was not much boat traffic today to cold and winding. All I was stating with the commit, but not now is that if you do not fish the lake very much it would be tough to catch crappies on it unless it was spring time and then anybody can catch them. They are every where. I have caught more 1 3/4 lb. or bigger crappies out of raystown then any other lake that I fish.

He was asking for enough to have a fishfry. I was just giving him a tip on what might help him.
