Raystown Bait Shops

Hello All...

Planning a trip to Raystown in 2 weeks.  I'm going to launch at James Creek and stay at Nancy's Boat to Shore.

Can anyone tell me if there is a bait shop nearby that sells BIG shiners?

Thanks!

Shawnee Bait and Tackle (the NEW shop NOT Couch Ed's) should carry them. It's close to Raystown Lake but I don't know where the areas you mentioned are.

Shawnee bait and tackle is 50 miles away.  Saxton Surplus on route 26 should have them.

Scotts sporting goods is probably the closest. It's about a half mile from the aitch boat ramp. (814) 658-2128

There is also a sporting goods on the way to seven points, I forget the name of it, but it usually has shinners.

Then there's big 4 , and raystown fishing and hunting on rt 22 south of huntingdon. they both have shinners, atleast they use to.

Hey thanks, all, for the information...  I've been on Raystown once with a guide, and we had a slow day, caught nothing...  I'm looking forward to pulling my boat out there and giving it a try.

Bighead, do you have to keep your receipt to prove you didn't catch the trout and turn around and use them for bait?  Is that illegal?

When we used trout we kept the receipt as the trout were not legal size to keep if caught in a stream. If you caught some that were legal size and kept them alive I think you would be legal.

7 points bait and grocery is right along the road to 7pts just past Jim's Anchorage at the top of the hill. The Oar House is right in the marina on the waterfront and aslo has a good selection...but be prepared to get raped with the prices. best bet if you're after stripers is to catch some large chubs and fallfish from the smaller streams and keep them alive in cold, aerated water till you're ready to fish. Hardier than shad or trout and easier to keep alive. Fish really don't seem to know the difference.
