Downside of public land

Well we had a gobbler fired up this morning. Unfortunatly so did someone else. Seemed like we were playing pickle in the middle calling him in. Everytime we called he gobbled everytime the other hunters called he gobbled.... 5 minuted later all calling stopped.guess who got em?

Oh well still have a whole month.

howed you guys do on opening day?

We had birds gobbling around us today at first light. They hit the ground an went the other direction. At about 7 i heard a faint gobble i yelp 4 times instant respones.I waited 5 minutes yelp again he cut me off.I knew then he was closing the distance yelp 2 times and cluck 2 times he hammer it again. Then we heard a putt an saw mr. longbeard running the other way.I'm still scrtaching my head on what happen with this bird?We were in a blind maybe he saw us throw the mesh maybe the dekes spook him i'm still not sure.I'm looking for a new blind if they even make one.I want a blind that you can see out but animals can't see in do they make something like this?We had another one gobbling at 11 but he wasn't real hot.

I had two across the road gobbling most of the morning in a field and had a hen close enough I could have reached out and grabbed her. I wanted to move for the bird across the street, but there was no way to get there with out walking in post property or cutting across the field they were in. Besides, with a REAL hen calling for me, I shouldn't have to move.

Some people are like Slinkies...not really good for anything, but you still can't help but smile when you see one tumble down the stairs.

Hammered a 9.5 inch longbeard at 7 am.....gobblin on the roost flew down about 150 out gobbled sporadically to light calling, showed up @ 7 and tried to eat prettyboy...lights out.

Chicken27, don't know what kind of blind you have but you need to basically close all windows except 1. your sillouette when another window is open is really visible. Keep the opening as small as possible. When I use the blind with the kids I have about a 6 inch opening across the front. Then be very careful to keep the light from coming in underneath. It gets real hard to see in there even in the middle of the day when you do that stuff.

I love the assclowns that come out on saturdays... Got birds gobble'n all over so 2 clowns start cutt'n and yelpn before its even light out- then one proceeds to walk right thru the roosting area. first guy walks out to egde of cornfield and just sits there in the open and its only 630- hen flew down right in front of us and he sticks his head out in the field and attempts to call.......other guy circles us completely and then walks across a 75 acre cornfield... its only 7am.. and then they leave. just sittn on the back side of the field shaken my head...makes ya wonder what people think

That's why I love retirement. I quess everyone has to learn how to hunt them but they sure can muck up everyone else around them in the process. Actions like that just save more birds for me come Monday.

I got to hunt 2 times this year, for a total of three hours,I called in two of the smallest jakes I've ever seen. They almost ran me over at 7 yards, they had little 1 inch beards,I past on them, left and went to spot number two,a true giant and two hens are in a corn field,I set up at the other end of field,350-400 yards away(only place to set up)started calling at 7:15,big boy gobbles, and struts all the way across the field,I'm in shock that I can suck two hens and this monster bird across this field. There's a yellow weed bush at 45 yards and I said I'd shoot if he came to that weed but hoped for closer. He double gobbled at 60 yards and it looks like I'm going to seal the deal.I saw a truck drive by twice, but didn't think much of it,well I should have, the turkey looks in a different direction heads up and alert, and runs like hell,he's gone and it's 9:15.****clowns out in the field belly crawling, this Richard parked 50 yards from my van.I had some very strong words for this so called turkey hunter,he didn't say to much back,I took his plate number and was so ****ed I thought about calling the warden( stalkiing and no orange while moving)but I didn't.I've had some bad luck over the years with turkey hunters but this takes the cake.
