DRAMATIC CHANGES

For the 2011 spring gobbler season, which is set to run from April 30-May 31,the board approved a change to the legal hunting hours.Under the change, legal hunting hours from the opening day of the spring gobbler season through the third saturday(April 30-May 14) will retain the current one-half before sunrise until noon time frame. However, the remainder of the season(May 16-31) will be expanded to run all day, from one-half hour before sunrise until one-half after sunset.Just wanta to see how every felt about this change?

I kind of like the half day. Seems like I get home from hunting and there is still time to do family things.

Don't see a problem with it.  I like having the option.  May be time to get a ground blind and comfortable chair and wait them out.

And since I always have to complain a little...if they really wanted to do something to increase hunter satisfaction, they could move the season back a week or two earlier.

    I'm for it too.
I kinda like our "later" season, too.
The woods are thicker, fields fuller...let's ya get closer to the birds.

The change is not that big of deal i'm not for it or against.I just think that this will have alot more guys in the woods which will lead to more killings. It also gives the guys that would never turkey hunting a reason to go because all you have to do is find a roost tree an be patience just like deer hunting.I think there will be alot more birds killed next year.Yes it will give people more time to hunt that work but this time of the year with sports activities maybe they just won't go hunting.

The amish kids around here will love it.
They can shoot them  off the roost in the evening now tooo.......

Not sure I like it. Opens up the woods to all the slobs to lazy to get out of bed in the morning.....

I guess the "PGC" finally found a way to goof up turkey season as well as our deer traditions . Roost hunters are on the way forget about putting em to bed goblers will ALL go silent in the years to come . **** shame look for lower reproduction rates from all areas in 2-3 years with the breeding season unprotected . Atleast they are protected for 1/2 a day for the first two weeks of the spring season . The only good I can see from this . If you really like to turkey hunt use vacaction days thats what I've always done . You can't do everything all the time

Who would force you to stay a full day ?

Well, nobody. But, once I was out there, I'd be hunting and the next thing you know, the sun would be going down. That's how it works. I'd lose track of time. Actually, this might be a good thing because I work night shift so the early AM time is when I'm sleeping normally.

The fall change was to allow people to go to the mountains and hunt the week of thanksgiving. To provide additional hunting opportunity for those with camps, as well as those of us who get so wrapped up in archery that we miss the fall turkey season. Commissioner Martone brought this resolution forward to increase hunting opportunity.

As for all day hunting, it will kill a LOT more birds. Guys will simply have to set up between the roost & a field and hammer them on the way back in. Not a big fan of that or the extra gobbler tag.

Better too far back, than too far forward.

Late hunting is not a good thing leads to more ambushing than calling.

i'd rather it just be the half day. there's nothing more fun than hiking into the woods in the dark and setting up, not sure if they'll be at your favorite spot or not... then that rush you get when one gobbles nearby at day break

So, if that's the case, why don't the guys who can't call just sneak under them before daylight now?

    Ok, they do already......

    That's a bunk argument.

If a guy wants to limb bang one, he will......does not matter if it's at daylight or dusk.

This proposed change is opening up our opportunities to hunt more. Maybe those who have kids who hunt will be able to take them out after school next Spring. Guys who work daylight shift will have the opportunity to hunt for two weeks after work.

Many states have been allowing all day hunting for many years......

    It's only two weeks, geeez.

I know one thing, I'm happy about the change. I will be able to take my daughter out more when she normally would not be able to go.

All for it, wish it was this year.

Some of you people who are just looking to gripe and complain should check and see that Ohio has done this for several years now and it hasn't affected them one bit.

I would also think it's more difficult to sneak up under one when it's still light out in the evening, rather than sneaking up under one in early morning darkness as he's gobbling his head off.  Two sides to every arguement.
