Oy Vey!

Looks like mother nature is shining on our fishing but not on our shooting.  Hopefully this series of cold fronts shoves down at least a few woodies and some teal.  Saturday here in the NW could be really unproductive.

Warm weather, NO water, and few birds.  I think I will go fishing if the weather is decent enough.

If I agreed with you we would both be wrong

I saw a TON of teal during early season goose hunting water.  They were all over Presque Isle and some other areas in NWPA...bunch of woodies too.  I'm just hoping this warmer weather keeps some of those teal around a little longer since I can't get out on Saturday.  MONDAY will be the day for me...

Agreed,  A buddy and I aren't 100% certain yet either.  Hey storm, maybe we can get IUP to sell us his spots since he won't be in them on Saturday... LOL

I've you've got some good land for a 4th year bowhunter (me) that my stand wouldn't be stolen on (mine was taken along with a ladder to another but the tree stand left 15' in the air) there could be a possibility there.

In all honesty, you can't hunt where I saw the majority of teal at right now -- Presque Isle.  They were all over Thompson's Bay along with a ton of woodies.

PM me -- maybe I'll let you in on a spot or two since I can't hunt sat.  Just have that big buck scouted for me - LOL

"that my stand wouldn't be stolen on".  That is the kicker.  I do have spots I could get you in on, but I hunt exclusively out of a climber.  I will send a pm tomorrow (wife has the honeydo list waiting).

You guys could tag along to Geneva with me, just make sure to bring your Kevlar.  It's like opening day of trout... WITH GUNS!!!  Went down last weekend and saw a few teal zipping around, and a ton of woodies.  The good news with everything being so dry is that if you can find a good hole that's still full then you should be good.

Thanks Guys,  Unfortunately I have been roped into taking a trip to the inlaws this weekend, so I may be done for a couple days.  Oh well, perhaps we can hook up a little later in the season.

I've heard Geneva was crazy opening day...person I work with swears he will never be there on opening day ever again and he lives right on the other side of the swamp in Meadville.  I hear guys even go out in their boats the night before (tonight) and sleep in their boats...too much for me.  Either way, I'd rather be hunting tomorrow than working...

Good luck out there guys and keep your head down if you're in Geneva...

Yes Geneva is crazy on opening day.
Here are few random thoughts about todays opener.

While I was archery hunting on the hill above the swamp.
1- 1st shot was at 6:30ish yes it was still dark
2-2nd shot was at 6:48 by my watch
3- from 6:59 till approx. 7:24 was nonstop shotgun blasts up and down the entire swamp.
4-from 7:30 till 8:30 shooting was slower but still consistent
5-when I left at 10:30 it was down to just the sky busters every 5-10 mins.

Talked to a group of guys along the rd. They said it was 90% woodies with a few teal and mallards mixed in.
Unfortunately half them woodies probably never get recovered cause guys are to busy shooting to mark them down, correctly Id what they're shooting or when they've killed a limit.

Only one mallerd here. Saw one other old fella and he said there was a guy with a shotgun and fishing pole ( never saw him), walking the lake. Saw feel birds. Heard more muzzle loaders going off than anything.

Ended up hunting in NC PA along the Suesqehanna.  My folks and inlaws live on the NY side along the line.  That said,  my buddy and I ended up with 6 mallards and a couple of missed opportunities one on woodies and the other on a pair of mallards that we whiffed on...  Kind of a shame that goose is closed, I could have limited out several times as they kept landing in my decoy spread LOL.

I didn't hear the shot that early, but the first shot that I heard was at 3 minutes to.  And my previous report was not a good prediction...  LOTS OF TEAL!!!  I guess I just got lucky that I found a spot that no one wants to hunt.  You wouldn't think it's good, but it's between two pockets and the morrons are at least 100 yards away.  BTW, ended up with a drke woddie and hen GWT for 1.5 boxes...  I was a bit off my game.

Some group of jerks must have come out in the swamp the night before trying to "save" a spot.  There were a ton of glow sticks and they left their canoe with all their decoys and a cooler tied to a stake.  Of course, where is the game cop when you need him.  That's alright, it was amazing to see the glow sticks disapear as the night wore on.

One drake woodie for me...missed a few other times.  Pretty much only saw woodies and possibly some teal that were out of range.  This weather isn't helping but should keep some teal around still at least.
