I worked as a Forester in Pa for many years and had one tick, a dog tick. I never picked up a Deer Tick. Where did they come from? I do not think they were native to here.

I remember getting one wood tick about 3 years ago. Deer ticks are everywhere. Seemed to spark about 10 years ago. I remember a buck a friend shot the first day of archery about 14 years ago was covered in them. They were like a foreign creature to us. Freaked out ! They are going to be really bad this year.

I wonder if the unified sportsmans are stocking them to keep hunters out of the woods; thus shooting all the deer.

Never saw any in 1A or 2B my entire life until last year.  Saw a few too many last year for my liking.  Really sucks thinking I have to spray down every time I'm in the woods, which is like half my life. :) I know enough people who have lymes disease that I don't wish it on my worst enemy, so I'll take my precautions instead of my chances.

Don't forget that your pets can get Lyme Disease from deer ticks as well. Keep 'em up to date on their flea/tick meds.

My 4 year old black lab got hit hard with Lyme last fall right after duck season started. He was in pretty rough shape for a week or two before the antibiotics kicked in.

They were bad around here (2B/2D) last year and the previous year. 2 years ago, I pulled 3 embedded deer ticks off of my body at one time. Last fall, I pulled 4 different deer ticks off of myself.

One more reminder that the vet shared with me - frost/cold does not kill ticks, it only makes them dormant. Even in the middle of winter, as long as there isn't heavy snow cover, if there's a thaw for a day or two, they'll get active again.

With the warming climate they are moving farther north every year.
Hunting around Shenango last year I picked a tick off me and Mika.
Bear season was a bust too. Had 20 ticks on me the first day and
no one wanted to go back out the second day. (Mckean Co.)

I have been cutting logs in the PA and NY woods for 30 years, hunt archery, small game and fish trout streams all the time and have yet to find a tick on me...
Must not like the way I taste....

That no stinkin' ticks stuff from scent shield really does work, but it costs a pretty penny for 8 ounces.

silver, is that the name of a anti-tick spray?

I need to find a good spray both for me and my 4 year old who wants to go in the woods with me this spring.
