Brodhead creek first week of oct

Brodhead creek experienced a significant caddis hatch last night.  One of the first that I have witnessed since the floods over the last 4 years.

Fishing the last few hours before dark produced 20 trout for me.  The stocked fingerlings from several months ago can be found through out the system and show even in the summer heat this system has potential for becoming great once again.  Browns are loose with eggs are are moving up stream to spawn.  If you find a couple browns you will surely find some rainbows below feeding on eggs.  Single glo bugs have been effective as well as caddis emergers.

For the bait fisherman wax and mealworms have been taking fish though out the evening, however the rish responded heavily to the wax worms during the caddis   emergence.  Single eggs where also a good choice, up till the insect activity.

I manged fish on flies, jigs and bait.  Not bad for a few hours out.
