fishing report

Yesterday morning fished Rose Valley(Lycoming Co.) for 2 and a half hours-NADA. Hit a local pond in the afternoon. Caught 1 bass, 3 blue gill, and 1 perch(8 inches). Fished another pond this morning. Did much better(had to move 3 times!) 6 bass, and 33 sunnys. Fished the Susquehanna river this evening, only caught 1 walleye(16 inches) and 1 quill back. Talked to some guys in a boat, they said they caught about 60 smallys. I believe them, they were fishing in a restricted area! Still can't get anyone around here to ice fish!!  So frustrating. I am dying to fish for some steel through the ice!!

Steel thru the ice! Now you are talking! Nothing like one of those crazy fish on a short string. I love it. It took me a while to start getting them up thru the hole. They always hit the lightest panfish rig. Two years ago I landed a 12 pound hook jawed male on 2 lb. floro. It can be done.

Even when I rig for them specifically, I don't land half of what hits. The old "quick release".

As tight as I can with a fish that is going to strip line hard. I use small level winds thru the ice for them. That way they can take line and not twist me up, like a spinning reel will. Got to be smooth too.
