Good catch Skip!
Looks like there's some piggies in there.

Great Pictures Skip. How was the ice looking with the warmer temps. Haven't attempted Chesnut yet, but went to Misery last weekend. Fishing was slow, but ice was great. 9 in all together, and a good 6 was black ice.

This is my catch yesterday and today most caught today, yesterday threw back more than kept, I threw back about dozen , dozen 1/2. I got these off Niagara boat launch. Drilled a lot of holes to get all these. Yeah, I could have gone off of chestnut like everyone else, but I have been hunting for the bigger ones, Yes I kept some smaller ones to make a nice meal. I threw about 20 back today, I fished from 7:30am to noon.
I think tomorrow I may go off of Chestnut or Dobbins for somewhere different. Ice is looking good. It was expanding this morning makin ice. I hope it continues, want long season of hard water!!!!!!
good fishin everyone ~ hookem & cookem!

Nice job Alaskan, I fished chestnut for 2 hours yesterday I saw a lot of smelt a steelhead and some nice perch that just wouldnt fight with the smelt for bait. Only the little perch would fight I'm going later this morning for a while hopefully it doesnt get as windy as it was yesterday.

Had the entire Bay to myself until I left @ 2:30 am...  finally found them after covering about 2 miles.  pigs.  Had to leave while they were still hammering.

BE VERY CAUTIOUS in close.

The middle of the Bay has about 8" of superior ice.  The ramp @ Chestnut wasn't looking good when I left. (raining)  I heard that somebody broke through yesterday.  Doesn't surprise me.  Out to about 300 yds, it was only 4.5",  and soft in some areas.

Prediction:  edges get messed up over the next couple days, with a full recovery by late next week.  Just hope we don't get much snow.  Even if the 1st 200 yds get thinned, you know some fool will be out.

I think its best we have this rain coming in and warm up to get rid of the crappy ice/slush in the middle & top layer to become solid with next weeks cold temps.

I agree, but I didn't feel very confident on some of that close-in ice.  Then to wake up and read that someone broke through yesterday enhanced that uneasiness.  2 days of high 40's and rain is gonna make getting out to the good ice off the city side risky at best.  The forecast looks like a total rebound quickly, and that should make for some excellent February ice.

I'm not totally counting it out for the weekend, as it takes me longer to walk out to 18 ft. of water than it does to drive to the ramp.  I'm just cautious with ice on any water, especially THAT water.  I just have a hunch I'm gonna end up looking for bluegills instead of perch.

BLUE GILLS WERE BEING CAUGHT TODAY ABOUT 50 YARDS OFF THE AREA BETWEEN 1ST AND 2ND PARKING LOT, LARGE QUANTITY'S BEING TAKEN. WHEN I WENT TO CHECK THE AREA, TWO GUYS HAD A NICE AMOUNT IN EACH OF THEIR BUCKETS. PERCH WAS NOT BAD TODAY. ICE SHOULD REBOUND LATE NEXT WEEK, THE EDGES WILL BE THE BIG FACTOR.

I drove around Sunday and the edges looked real bad.
I hope the cold snap this really seals up the edges.
Can't wait for the weekend.....again.....
Not many people fishing on Sunday afternoon around 2:30 ish either
