9/20/07 - Cable Modem... HTTPS Connection Problem?

Are you guys here in State College who have comcast cable modems experiencing a problem hitting sites that are secure... mail logins, my forum, ebay login?

Sites not using https seem fine, such as fishusa forums.

No, I use verizon.  BUT, I just had a friend last week get his identity robbed.  Took all his money out of his account.   He got it though.

A guy I work with ran into the same problem a couple weeks ago.  Try powering down your router or switch if you are using one and then turning it back on.  I'm not sure why that worked but it did.  If that doesn't work then I will need more information.  What is your current setup at home(i.e. routers, switches, OS, firewalls, browser)?

HTTPS uses Secure sockets layer so you will need to check in your browser to make sure SSL is checked.  By default it is usually selected.  Another thing to check on is if port 443 is being blocked by your firewall.  That is the default port that SSL uses.

Im familiar with networks, I have an Associate In Applied Science - Computer Information Systems. It was comcast's problem. I watched the ip configure through DHCP and every time the new IP came in after reset, comcasts router would fubar the subnet mask.

Knew it definitely wasnt a configuration problem, I configured firefox by hand. Im running OSX Panther for an OS.

I walked away, it started working about 10am.

Thanks for the heads up anyhow.

Glad to hear you got it back up and working.  I also went to school for computer science.  I got by bachelors in Computer Science and I am currently working on my Masters for Computer Information Systems.  I also working full time for Raytheon Company as a software engineer.

By the way nice job with your websites.  Out of curiousity, did you use AJAX for your Trout Unlimited web page to request data without reloading the entire page?

Yep, ajax is rather simple isnt it? one thing I dont like about that setup that I wont be doing with fly fly fishers is that it doesnt bookmark without shuffling data between the browser and the page.
