Fluorocarbon Tippet

Just wondered if anyone has used Frog Hair fluorocarbon tippet material and if so any comments pro or con on it. It has a hefty price tag and before I invest in a bunch of it I would like to hear any pros or cons. Thanks in advance.

good diameter to break strength.

I guess I'll get a spool of 3X & 4X and give it a shot. Been using Orvis super strong but I've had trouble with it breaking at the knots.

P-Line is fantastic!

I've never paid close attention to the diameter, I jsut go by the test poundage. Their 4 pound is very supply but strong. It's one of those lines that makes you ask "Is this REALLY only 4 pound?"

I was recently introduced to a new local line by the guys at Lock 3 bait and tackle. Gamma line. I spooled up with two pound and while I found it had more memory than I like, it is amazingly strong and I got just as many bites as with other lines I've tried. Enough so that I'm going to try some more just in case I got a bad spool or bad spooling.

I think either way it'd make a nice tippet, but I can't give an opinion on that just yet.

I recently used the cabelas brand and was happy with it.  I would like to know who makes it for them?

Once upon a time I was fishing the Shenango River with a tippet spool consisting of four spools of fluorocarbon tippet, 5x, two 4x's and 3x, all unused up until the point I glanced down only to find that the spool lock came undone somehow and there went close to $60 of tippet downstream.

That was the last time I've had fluorocarbon tippet, and one of those tippet spools hanging from my chest pack for that matter.

i just bought some gamma for my tippits pricy but from all accounts well worth the price lol as much as i get out i should have it well into my eighties lol
 

Ive been thru the flourocarbon puzzle myself.  While I do have a spool of Orvis Mirage just for low and clear in Erie...I haven't noticed much advantages to any of the flouro's.  I've gone to Maxima in either 4 or 3lb test.  It seems to work just the same and I have none of the problems of knots slipping or breaking.  That's the thing that I noticed most about Mirage...the knots don't break....they SLIP until they come undone. 

go-n-fishn~ gamma makes frog hair. though i havn't spent the money on frog hair i have used gamma 4lb & 6lb fluoro leader for tippet. it is strong and had no problems with break offs. i suggest you not get airflo sight free fluoro for steelhead fishing. i paid good money for the stuff and am about to toss it. it doesn't have the flex you need from the quick jolts of steelies and the knots either come undone or break. i've lost more fish on this stuff i looked like a rookie not knowing how to play'em. i've had better luck with a fluoro 6x tippet i get from kettle creek fly shop. it's $5.00 for a spool of 25yrds. it's worth it in very clear water with spooky fish!! just remember to look at how much is on a spool per. price. some come in 25yrds. while others will be 25meters.  ~doubletaper
