Rabbits

Hunted today for about 2 hours by myself, no dog. Put out 12 rabbits got 1. Only got 3 shots off. You can't imagine how many times I kick them out only to watch them run out the other side and all I can do is watch them get away!  Wish guys were not so lazy. O well just as fun now as when I was 12. Time to fish the Susky tonight for walleye. Merry X mass!!

Let me know if you want to run a dog behind them sometime. Makes for a lot less 'ones that got away'.
Although, thinking about it, maybe that makes me 'lazy'??

Good luck on the 'eyes & a Merry Christmas to you too.

no i still have her might have decided to keep her but im still unsure. she runs them only barks one or two times while chaseing them and doesnt follow through very well after the shot. after the first shot she stops and looks at you, she just needs run a little more. i will let you know in the next couple days if i have decided to keep her or not.

She just a little unsure, don't shoot a rabbit on the jump(over her)she may bark more when she runs on bare ground.I'd keep her if I where you, someone abandon her, years ago that was a common practic after hunting season slob hunters didn't want to feed a dog all year,I've had beagles since I been 8 years old and still have one 12 year old dog that will still smoke a bunny, after he goes,I thinking about starting with some young dogs,I love to hunt bunnnies in the snow.

Same here. All the fields are now housing plans. If I could put up a dozen rabbits in two hours, I'd probably give up deer hunting in archery.

i have not been shooting them on the jump ive been letting her chase them before shooting them. i just think she needs ran a little this picture was taken the 2nd day i had her so she was still a little bit shy, she has warmed up to me very well. im almost positive im going to keep her now as long as the place im keeping her continues to allow me to keep it there. but if that changes ill let you guys know!

I would definitely give up archery hunting if that were the case where I hunt.  I took my dog out on Saturday morning for a few hours, and she had 2 going, both holed up after about 10-15 minutes, never came out of the real thick jaggerbushes. Saw one other, I blasted it, the wind was blowing pretty hard which made it hard on my dog.  My dad saw 2 more and we both saw some tracks in the snow which was a good sign.  Most rabbits I've seen/had running(5 in all) in a morning, in a few years.

Dr. Alt estimated the rabbit population to be around 1.6 million ,give or take a few. This number has not been verified by the PaGC.

Unlimited rabbit tags in 2B,longer seasons, kill more doe's,the AR a little tough, but forked jackalopes are ok,spikes are for junior hunters.

Where you on a game preserve? The most rabbits I've ever put out without dogs is 5 and that was hunting all freakin' day.

1/11 ..... still have her? Why does she need to go now? Have you had any problems with her? How does she look health wise? Is she eating right?

I know what you mean by a shy beagle. She looks just like my little one and she's the same way. You just need to spend time with her. She'll never be as easy to get near though. I bring mine in the house for about 2 nites a week for some t.v. LOL It does wonders for a shy beagle. It makes the difference in whether you can catch her or not when you need to.  Doesn't bark much on the trail either. She's very thorough though and will find a track when a rabbit pulls a fast one .... quick turn, loop etc. when the other faster one might over run it. A quiet dog like that just needs another dog for a partner.

I have 2 one year olds but I know someone who may be interested.

I know you said she didn't bark much or follow through after the shot but did she stay on the track and bring the rabbits around? She must have done something right to kill 5 bunnies in an hour and a half!

Last .... where do you live?
You can email me on the side: indiansummer.joe@gmail.com
    Thanks
