Anyone free thursday?

I have Thursday off this week and can really see no better way to spend it than waking up early and sitting on the ice. Anyone else have thurs off and feel like heading out for a little hardwater fun? I am up for fishing anywhere there is safe ice. Any takers??

    Duane -

If you don't get any other takers let me know - I might be able to hit something local in the morning. I still have about 2 dozen fatheads that will turn into 'uncertified contraband' on Friday...

Hey Duane, I get out of work around 2, we could meet at collins by 230 for an evening crappie trip.

You dudes are lucky.  Ebenezer Scrooge in the office next to mine will have me here at work past dark on XMas Eve.

Just got word from my boss "Scrooge"...  Sounds like he might give me Thursday off.

If that's the case, he should tell me by Wednesday when we are throwing a little party here at work.  I am hoping that after we all eat and whack a few beers in the office he will say "get out of here and don't come back until Monday".

If that happens, I will probably fish at my house since Snyders Lake should be good to go.

Anyone interested is always welcome, of course!  The campfire will be blazing and Elvis will be looking out my bedroom window.

You sure about that? How much ice you got now?

I am going to drill a few tonight when I get home and soak some shiners for an hour or two while sitting around the fire checking out some new tunes.  I did see a few holes this morning just north of my house, so there is at least enough to walk.

The center is still a little open as it usually is.  Over the 40ft marks.

I am hoping I can mark some 'gaps' between weedbeds since the ice is so clear.

I will keep you posted on thickness tonight when I get an accurate reading.  It grew REALLY fast out of nowhere.  I guess once that surface water temp hits 33 or so it really takes off fast!  I heard it booming last night when I walked out to get my neglected mail from the weekend.

well let us know how much ice you measure. I'm down for fishing after work thursday, so if you have ice, I'm there...I mean i usually like catching fish when I go, but I know how your lake can be

Yeah- I surely don't expect any banner improvements on Snyders productivity over the previous two winters.

But with any luck the pannies should be more concentrated in a few choice (and convenient) spots.

Smallies were the majority of catches last year, with maybe a dozen Wally's in the bunch.

Exactly two Perch, and two crappies all season.  But maybe they are just hugging structure!

I have a funny feeling we will find out soon enough!

Lance I would be all for a late afternoon crappie fest. But a day on the frozen wasteland that is snyders lake would be fine too, at least we wont freeze while we dont catch any fish Guess we will know whats going on in a couple days. All I know is I will be on the ice somewhere!

Snyders is looking good.  The middle still has birds swimming around in it, but the shorelines are nice.

The bay near my house is great- and that is pretty much where the pannie action would be.  "My" structure is under safe ice too, so that would be a good bet.  Just can't get across to the point yet on foot.

Here is a photo from this morning.  Its as perfect as I've ever seen ice.  Not a flake of snow on it, and just PRIME for some hockey right now.  I plan on chilling fireside on Thrs afternoon and just skating from flag to flag.

Never ice-fished in hockey skates before, but also never had conditions like these:

I've ice fished with my hockey skates, great for getting to a flag quick in slick ice and knockin some people around a little, watch the line w/ your blades and your lucky you live right there, cause my feet hurt and changing into ice cold boots on the lake sucked.

The new camera I bought myself for Christmas is sweet, huh?  I loved my old one a ton, so I simply bought the newest and most upgraded version of that same Canon.  12.1mp and easy to use.  And heck, the SCREEN WORKS so I can actually see the photos I took!  Wow!

Yeah, the neighbor kids won't play any more hockey with me...  I whooped it up on a few middle school kids last season and I think they have had enough of that.  Poor dudes had no idea I've played hockey all my life.

But if they skate around my spread of traps again this year I will be right back out there with the SuperTacks looking for a target to cross-check.

My side of the lake is pretty much left alone by the snowmobiles and trucks on the ice in the winter.  Most of the homeowners on the lake are really cool people.

yah i used to play every saturday night by the airport, saturday days were football games, then to hockey game, then to a highschool party,,, and sleep all day saturday. You know they have pick up games at the beth. park, I don't have mcuh equipment anymore, but was gonna give it a shot.

And if you can believe this they still say the ice on their pond is unsafe, WTF.

Snowed a little bit down here, if you have any up that way it might help with walking on the ice and also the fishing might be better since they won't be able to see you looking down at them.
