Pleny of ice and a few fish

Duane & I headed out to a local lake, met up with KJO43 for the 1st time. A solid 5" of good clear ice covered the whole place which was sweet. The place we went is always hit and miss, holds some nice ones when you can find them. Odd thing is they never seem to school up there ???

KJO was running tipups, myself and Duane were jigging in the warm shanties. I give KJO a lot of credit for braving the weather the hole time, i just can't deal with the cold anymore

KJO setting up

I found this bullhead early on

KJO had a few early flags ... a couple keeper perch to start the day out.

It was kind of slow, just didn't mark much at all. We moved around covering different areas and depths.

Duane's new shack

The inside of his new winter home

I was keeping warm when this guy wanted to join me

Only crappie of the day ... went 11"

While me and Duane stayed mobile , KJO was keeping busy with these nice perch ....

Couple jumbos in the mix

Overall it was slow but very fun to be out on the water today.

To sum it all up i took this  pic just for Jimmy , LOL !!!

Hope everybody else had a fun fish filled day.

Good times!  I'm jealous of all you guys out there already.  Looks like y'all got a few fillets for your trouble.   BB alrright rocking the unshaven woodsman look- and always holding up fish.

Nice job and nice shack Duane.  Fished up north today with about the same results....covered a lot of ground, marked very few fish.  The holes I did mark fish in, I would catch a dink then it would shut right off.  Certainly enjoyed being out on some good ice!!

I agree for sure KJO creeper are next up on my must have list for ice fishing. I almost fell on my arse a number of times today. I may not have caught any fish today but I do think I got a good idea how to use the vex and some good practice setting up camp with the shanty. All in all a good day in my book, it was great to get out on the hardwater with you two!

Yessir thats a very nice perch Craveman... get her through ice?

I agree Duanes got a ****in' Clam.  Thermal walls...Man you even got a heater already. Sweet setup - you'll be comfortable on all the big lakes.  Mine is OK, more like the Ford Maverick of flipups. Not many frills, but out of the wind and you're sitting down anyway.
