MONDAY 12/21 CAROGA LAKE TRIP?

I am off monday and want to get up to Caroga Lake if anybody's up for it. It was 14 below there thursday night and I heard from a friend there was already 4" of good ice there before that. Splake will be the fish of the day.
Never been there but I have some info on it.

I can also change to someplace else for pike or pannies. Anybody off Monday 12/21 and jonesing to get out?

i was on west lake yesterday which is about 5 miles away and that had 4-5 inches.  caught 32 perch and 3 pickerel in an hour or so.  how deep do you catch those splake.  i can never seem to get any of those buggers.  i went to caroga 2x last year and caught bass, perch, a pickerel, a walleye, and a bullhead.

    UPDATE:
I have to be Pallbearer at a funeral monday morning as it turns out.  I believe I still may be able to go out on tuesday morning, but can only stay til around noon so not sure if it's worth the close to 2 hr drive, but maybe it is.   Sorry for the bogus headline.

Craveman or anybody else off tuesday morning give me a shout out,  maybe exchange #'s if somebody has to cancel.

I'M DYIN TO GET OUT THERE FOR GOD'S SPLAKE.

My barber has fished Caroga Lake and says he catches splake shallow right after ice up.  He says he fished in about 3 feet of water and uses minnows for bait.  Just past Vroomans (local bar) there is a small feeder stream.  A ways out beyond that inlet there is a dropoff somewhere from what I have heard.  I'm sure if you watch where the locals have been fishing you will probably get steered in the right direction.

Thanks Crg- I got that same sort of info on where to go - right near the bar.  .... Seems weird trout fishing in 3 feet of water...thats a new one on me.  Hoping I can get there tuesday if I can't, Maybe I'll look up Mr Hook someplace on wednesday.
