ice makin

had to drive into mass early this morning, most of the smaller lakes were partly skimmed over early in the morning, but were completely froze when we drove back through, just curious how far I will have to travel this weekend, but the ice is out there.

I didn't check all the places i wanted today. But here is what i found ...

Greens Lake - totally open water , no ice.

The place i went last Sunday is obviously still good.

Found another that had 2" last week , now 5" of clear/black ice , i punched a few holes about 20yrds out.

I won't be suprised to see people on most smaller places this weekend.

Onderdonk should be ok too, it's close to where i was today... it was locked up last weekend but i did not check it !!

Scouted Collins Lake to day punched 7 holes - between 3 1/2 & 4 1/2 of crystal clear ice - saw a muskrat swimming around and a few small panfish.

Was alone and the Park empty so I didn't venture out to the middle. Just checked the thickness - I know from fishing it, that I was in fish-able depth water- I'll be out maybe Sat - meeting SOF Sunday.

TOMHANNOCK aka HEARTBREAK LAKE is about 90% locked up, northern end by the dam and the big hole still open. I tested a spot on the southeastern side and it had 1½" of Black.  With the weather report, it looks like it will be good to go for the January 1st opener.
