clam vs box shanties

hey was wondering which type of shanties you guys prefer.  the box style or the clamshell ones and why.  think im going to actually buy one this year because i got rid of my porta potti on skis.  you would be surprised how many people opened the door expecting to be able to take a dump lol.

if at first you dont succeed... blow it up.

you want organic? well then shut the &^$() up and eat a *$&#*( squirrel.

I have only been doing this for 2 years so not a lot of experience. But i love my portable flip over !
Keeps me very mobile (i only jig, don't use tip ups) ... it's lite and easy for me.

It depends what kind of fishing you do. If you like to jig, stay mobile and cover as much water as possible, then you want the flip-over style. If you like to pick a spot and set up camp for the day, then either kind would work.

If you are jigging and on the move....definitely a flipover, my friend bought a cabin style and sold it in a month.  I am sure the cabin would be fine if you are just setting up tipups.

if you have a small group protable shanties aren't bad at all, especially to beat the wind and maybe do some cookin, or bakin.

i thought about just getting a hunting blind for it.  can pick up one for around 150 bucks for after hunting season sales... may build my own though.  gotta go to the junkyard and look for some aluminum pipes today.

i started to build a 4x6' folding homemade one.  should be about 80lbs when done.  over a hundred pounds lighter than the previous one.  also may pick up an older snowmobile so should be a good year.  ill post pics of the shanty when its done.

I have a pop up one like that jeff and the only problem that I have with it is when its windy the sides want to blow in on you and when the pop if your not sitting in your chair they will blow it all the way acros the inside of it. but other than that they are roomy and easy to set up.

If ya look at mine close ya can see eyelets on the side in the center where it pops out for tie downs so they won't blow in ...

    There is certainly something in

yeah mine has eyelets on the side too, it just takes more time to set up. but if you use it on not such a windy day then you dont even have to tie it down and like jeff said you can set up very fast

I got the Frabill one-man flipover... it's still in the **** box though, I can't open it til Christmas. I tested one out at ****'s at Crossgates Mall.  I can't wait- thats gonna make my life easier on those brutal days.  It might look a bit like Cheech's car at times.

my homemade one is coming along niceley.  a 4x6 platform with skis and 2 holes inside, the two sides are on hinges and fold up and the top is going to be a winter pool canvas for durability.  total cost around 40 bucks
