SMOKEPOLE

I got one quick question can i change the sight on my hawkens flintlock to a fiber optic?I saw 16 slick heads again tonight but it was right at dark and i refuse to shoot one with the rifle.I don't think i could see my sight when there coming through it just got iron sights on it.

All I use is a flintlock and the Traditions comes with a fiber optic sight. That is one of the few changes from the inital old time requirements. They work great as long as there is even a little lite.

The traditions has red front site ahd two green dots for the back site. This seems to work good even for my old eyes.

IDK about you sights, but if you don't think it is sporty enough to shoot a doe with a rifle, maybe try a head shot or something.

I shot many doe in the head with a rifle that's where i shoot them if i decide to take one with the rifle.I went last night with the smokepole could of shot at a half rack but i don't think he was legal plus i don't have a buck killed a 14 inch 7 point the first day.I saw 3 doe at 5:15 at 70 or 80 yards just a little to dark to take the shot.

Did you loosen the screw and try to adjust the flint. No offense, but it might be that simple.

For me the english flints worked a lot better. Also, I took my gun to a gunsmith to make little adjustments and I have yet to have a misfire and it goes off like a centerfire.

i always use germen flints but never heard ne thing bad bout english flints either. i also change mine or flip it every time i clean the gun. and always got a few extra in my pouch. Had a miss fire on a pretty big buck one year under 10yds away. the gun almost got thrown at him. so since then every time i clean the gun its changed. and b4 you load the gun test the flint out a few times.

    Wow, I hope your joking....

Miss a head shot by 2" and now you have a jawless deer running around until it starves. Thats not much of an accomplishment in my book. If your into to skill shooting, go to the range.

Chicken, try a white agate flint, they seem to hold up longer and deliver a more consistent spark. Also make sure your frison ( spelling ) doesnt have oil on it. I had similar problems and ended up having to purchase a new frison. Also, I like orange on my front site
