You can't hunt over it. It would be considered baiting...

Illegal and can't hunt over it within 30 days of it's removal. See #8 below......

    34 Pa.C.S.A. § 2308

    (a) General rule.--Except as otherwise provided in this title, it is unlawful for any person to hunt or aid, abet, assist or conspire to hunt any game or wildlife through the use of:

However, if you have a large enough piece of land, you can "post it for quality deer managment' and plant whatever deer attracting crop to attract deer to your property. I am NOT for baiting but this seems to me to be the same thing. It is just not poured out of the bag. A doctor in my area has a very large tract of ground, restricts hunting and plants deer "food', people that hunt the surrounding property and have for years see little game. Baiting is just illegal on the small scale. As always it depends how much money you have.

Mike Bleech hates the fact that this stuff and others like it are sold in PA around hunting season. Hunters could get into a world of hurt over it. Read #8 carefully, see the word "residue"? Completely dissolved salt licks leave salt residue in the soil, and yes this could get us fined too.

isn't it great that people hunt over bait on the "kill shows", then act like they are good sportsmen. Remember; they only can sell us their product if they kill a big buck. Money ends up taking the real meaning away from true hunting. Some of these shows give the anti's more ammo to show the non-hunting public how kill-crazy we are becoming. My two cents.

Most of that stuff only works to part us from our money anyway. None of the salt based products are any better than a regular salt block and c C-mere deer is acorn powder and salt. They are great if you want to kill deer March through June but a good apple tree, oak tree or cornfield is much better in hunting season.

Perhaps the value of mineral based attractants is that they serve to change the habits of deer. Maybe there is an area that is rarely frequented by deer. You start a spot by doping it with Deer Cocain or whatever. If you keep it up, the deer begin to learn that it is a dependable source of (if nothing else) salt. Eventually, some deer would make a habit of stopping by the area to use the spot.

It is amazing when you walk into****s or Walmart a week before the season and see people stocking up on these types of products. I wonder what they intend to do with them....

My own experience is with the deer cocaine. In southwest PA, where I live, they pretty much ignore it, but in Forest county, where my camp is, they tear it up. In some places where I dump it regularly, the deer have dug holes a foot deep to get at it.
