Rut
With this warm weather, has the rut even reached peak yet? I may try rattling in rifle for the first time. I cant recall it being this warm for this long up til the week before rifle.

Son, it don't matter how warm it is , the rut peaks Nov.5 to Nov. 12. The absolute best day to be out is Nov. 6

Peak is over around here. Secondary going on now.
We always see deer chasing young does during rifle season.
I have used a grunt call during rifle and flintlock season with some success.

Maybe a few days but nature is still nature. Nov. 6 was just my best day. I am an expert of my own opinion.

The doe that did not get bred in November should come into estrus the second week of rifle. The fawn doe will as well.
My reports and advice are for everyone to enjoy, not just the paying customers.

Second week of rifle will see some sporadic rutting activity, as Silver mentions.
Last year, second week, I was doing a push for a buddy of mine. Was standing under his treestand chatting and I could hear a buck grunting headed our way. Told my buddy to get ready and he comes a spike hot on the heals of a doe fawn. Last Saturday of the season, another buddy in camp shot a 8 point first thing in the morning pushing three does. He was grunting as well.
The seond week can be good if you happen to be where there is a hot doe.

As long as a buck has hard, polished horns he will chase does. That only subsides when nature tells the deer his time is over till next year.

Saw the most bucks chasing the next to late week of archery,saw no rutting activity the last week of the season but I'm sure it's still going on,two years ago I got a big 9pt (19 inch spread) chasing a doe on the first wed of gun season,shot alot of bucks in W.V. chasing doe's in gun season.

as everyone already stated when they saw chasing i guess i will too..this year i think i started to see chasing around oct27th? throught til the end of PA season and i saw chasing just til about last week.
Years past i've seen rut activity into December and after the gun seasons...depending on where you are at and your deer population, they should still be looking for fun...with less Does in some areas the less rutting you will see..not enough sweet estrus... i would believe a buck would chase as long as he would live if there was a doe to breed.
WARM weather has nothing to do with the RUT. it only effects the deer movement, the rut still takes place with "warm". the buck just locks down with the doe. the doe beds, hes ten feet away til she decides she wants to get up, then he'll chase her....

The rut is brought on by daylight,has nothing to do with temps,Approxmently 30 hrs the doe will be breedable,if not breed comes to cycle 28 days later.How do you think they get doe's to come in heat to make bottled sent,LIGHTING.

We watched a giant 10 and a small 8 battle it out last night with 17 doe present.We also saw a 18 inch 8 point chasing 3 does. Then we saw a big high heavy rack 8 0r 10 with 9 doe wasn't chasing just hanging out.This is the farm we hunt in washington county.There was like 50 or 60 deer out last night.The old man was ****ed about it because when we hunt there you can't see a good buck.I told him i beleive that the woods are to small an the deer see you coming.

Don't ya just wish you could fly into your spot in the woods instead of walking there....  every year here I see the exact same thing.... guys park along the roads and cross the fields they have been spotting for the past couple weeks and seeing "nice bucks" in it.. don't they know that in the past hour the nicer bucks haver moved away from the road where they were spotted and are finishing the evening meal by the woods... the motor shuts off.. silence again... wow.. the car door slams,,,, the sound of bullets and clips going into the rifle,, metal on metal... what was that.. oh the sound of someone's escaping gas..... flash lights.. OMG what's that smell...... footsteps coming this way ??? well time to head over to the next farm... here they come.. lets go fellow deer.. follow me to a hiding area... hours later the hunters return across the field whining about the PGC and the fact they saw no deer..... happens every year here !!!!! and will take place Monday morning once again.....

No doubt. All the guys that used to go to the same stand every year and wait there, like they were waiting for a bus, will be complaining about the PGC when no deer show up at the bus stop.
Whaddya mean we got to go look for em????
