Potato Creak

Do the still stock the creak ? The last couple of years I have caught very few fish here. They used to stock behind the lumber mill, do they still do this?

    Mika,

They did last year, not sure about this year as I don't pay close attention to the stocking lists, perhaps I should. In the past trout were stocked from the new bridge upstream a few miles above Betula downstream to Smethport (roughly). The lower stretch (below the Crosby Bridge) to town used to be float stocked.

I've been fishing Potato Cr. since 1976 the week prior to Memerial Day. The fishing is usually outstanding in my opinon.

    Mika,

Yes I know the Maples. Years back it was a fun place to visit, they often had live bands on saturday nights. Last year our group stayed at the Maples, up until then we stayed a the Schoolhouse Camp in Betula.

Did they sell the camp? I noticed a for sale sign there in bear season. Did you see the trailer by the creak is for sale? I,ll be at a camp(Savananas camp) just up the road past the log cabin , for the trout opener. Someone already is using our camp (junction of 146 and 46) that weekend so going to friends camp.Ever fish skinner creek? Might try there. Do they still float stock potato?

We (fish comm.) and us guys who help stock, stock Potato next Saturday. Normaly we float it in two places plus stock at all the bridges. Potato creek, Brewer Run, W. Branch Potato and Red Mill Brook are listed to get fish. Its changed to 12:30 if anyone wants to help.

There will be days when fishing is better than ones optimistic forecast, others when it is far worse. Either is a gain over just staying home.

What are the float points these days, Crosby and down? I remember years back the creek was float stocked from the 146 bridge downstream to Smethport (or there abouts), heck a few years I even remember a few years when they float stocked from Betula down. How they ever got the floats around some of the obstructions in the channel still baffles me.  Back in the 80's I used help the sportmans club that maintained the raceways in Crosby stock the tribs of Potato.

    Mika,

Over the years I've fished Potato from top to bottom at one time or another and most of the tribs. My favorite stretch is and always been the lower portion of Potato. In some years the mosquitos can be unbearble, but I keep going back.

Streamrunner, a gent that used to visit this site fairly often fishes over that way. He has camp on Marvin. Runner is a native Hubber. You out there Jeff?

    Thanks

Go-n fish, don,t you mean this sat.?  Brewers run is so small you can step over it. Ya pt the bugs can drive ya nuts in may. The black flies must have jaws of a gater.Like to be there for the stocking but the price of gas only allows me with one trip in Apr. and of course the annual turkey hunt. Pt., you going to fish pot. the first day? Will stop at the Bucktail for lunch. I also have a friend that has a camp(house) on Marvin. The fly fishing only section has some big holes in it. I do well there in june using a stonefly.

Stocked it today , floated from Crosby Bridge down to the pipe line , from the pipe line down to Calaco (sp) Bridge then I'm not sure how far from that bridge down they went with the floats. Stopped at the last bridge up with the truck and carried them in, then at the last bridge up by the Game Lands. Also hit Brewer, West Branch, and Red Mill . Busy day two and 1/2 trucks.

No where near as bad as E. Branch of Tionesta on thursday. Took two days to get over that trip.

We have 18inches on ground here near Pymy. What did you get? Do you think the creaks will be fishable the first day?

Oh yea, as long as we don't get any rain. Normal melt should leave them in good shape. Some of them need a little help believe it or not.

That is great news. As long as we have a slow steady warm up the creeks here should all be in good shape.Should be going up to camp on friday. My waders are jumping up and down! John
