Gas Auger Question

after ruining my shoulder last year with a manual auger and continously hurting it again all summer playing baseball i am going to buy a gas auger this year....there are a million of em out there and i saw one on craigslist for $200 or so.....when i searched it i found this one brand new for $329 at good ole fish usa no less

aside from the obvious size of the hole it makes what else do i want to look for?

That is your basic jiffy 2hp. Its gonna weigh a ton and won't cut the fastest, but they are very solidly well-built. If money is a concern, I would get a used auger. If your looking for something that cuts really well and is lighter, look at the strikemaster lazer mag power augers...4 lbs lighter (makes a big difference) and cuts at least 2x as fast as the jiffy...but almost $100 more. I have the nils master power auger, and it is the priceist of the power augers, but cuts the fastest and is the lightest...but the blades are fickle.

I have a Jiffy 3 HP. I bought it new about 8, 9 years ago. Very dependable, hasn't let me down yet. Never replaced the blades and still punches through the ice at a good clip. I use premium grade gas and full synthetic oil in a mix of 3.2 ounces of oil to a gallon of gas. I also take an extra plug along, just in case. Hope I never have to buy another auger, but wouldn't hesitate to get another Jiffy.

You sure do, man!  If I could get a power auger, I would start with one like Perch Inc's!  I am sure it wasn't cheap, but if you are fishing for smaller sized species it would be hard to be that ingenious model you have!

What does that thing weigh?  Less than a weed-whacker?

Found a good deal last year after the season and now I finally own one! Nils Master, you wont be Dissapointed !

The Nils augers are incredible. Love my Eskimo stingray only cuz i won it in a tourney and have only had to replace the recoil in the 4 years I have had it
