I am changing my vote for favorite photo now that I've seen more of Hot Tuna's collection.  Man, we took a ton of photos and the vast majority are pretty awesome.  But I think this one is most cover-worthy for an article:

Like the fishing glove , better than carrying a net around.I notice the stylish gray fishing garments! Yup, Tuna is engineered for the extremes!

We started the whole trip in the parking lot discussing whether or not Brown Trout could be successfully "tailed".

I found the glove a few weeks back during salmon season and wanted one handy just to help grip a fish for photos.  We ended up calling it the "Fighting Glove" and it worked to a tee!  (note the "FG" emblem on it).  I just kept it velcroed to a snap-link on my chest pack.

Great grip, even on Browns.

Funny thing is, when walking back to the truck midday for some gear, I looked at the DEC sign in the parking lot that helps explain Salmon River fish ID.

Turns out one of the 'identifying factors' to seperate Atlantic Salmon from Seaforellen Browns is the successful ability to 'tail' the fish.  The sign said "Browns can not usually be tailed successfully"...

I guess those dudes at the DEC don't know about FIGHTING GLOVES yet!!!  Ha!

Also, it obviously helped some that these trout basically had "Cankles" where the body joined the tail!!!

Yup, remember that AS and cohoe were the tail grabbers and kings etc. supposedly needed a net.. i see those now on fishusa.. i bet those dipped nylons for 1.99 at HD would work just fine too! I always use/try different gloves for work and found the gray heavy duty latex dipped excellent for gutter cleans/staining/cement work .. great for the protecting/preserving the "guitar hands". I was wondering also about the pro guides foul weather gear too. Looks like tuna keeps it simple .. see the clippers either dangling from a lanyard or using his multi featured fishing parka? man that brown is awesome! i tied pink bt eggs and hoping one more E and A trip before end season.

Yeah! what's with these "cankled deformities"?..I reeled in a cankled steelie a few seasons ago in the trestle pool..is it pollution, gene thing perhaps a bit of both?

I LOVE that jacket. It's a cabelas guide series and I got it at bargain price of $100.00. Every bit as good as any simms G3. Gortex and has 9 waterproof pockets with neo cuffs and Velcro adjustable tightners, no water gets in the thing. I had 2 full fly boxes, 4 tippet spools and a bunch of other goodies stashed in that jacket.. It has a strong D ring on the back which I attach a salmon net A good piece of clothing

tuna, after shopping around online for a flypack, i decided instead to invest in a new gortex shell..got it online gander mt. 200 bucks.. has so many pockets and will work great on the ice for an outer shell. Not like that old down coat you seen last season.. i felt like the kid stuffed in the coat in that movie xmas story.. wanted something with pockets and extreme weather. got the large dark red and i like this fishing guide parka.

Hey , Hi Perch.Inc...!!! Yeah, I finally got the nerve to check out those awesome monster brownies!!! Makes me want to get back up there and get more of those beauties, like soon...and, while checking out the porn, I recognised a fellow board member on another board I frequent at times, hes an incredible avid flyman!!...his browns are way crazy big!! That 15 plus pounder makes me feel sick...thats one for the wall...haven`t seen too many that size...!!! Anyway, I`ll have to introduce myself very soon to ya`all...and stop in here with some porn of my own...oh, and, BTW, sorry I didn`t use your "handle" Perch,Inc....I was afraid you might not want anybody to know we knew each other...!! Jimmy, you should post some of your fish porn here TOO!!!!

Dude, my photos are at the start of the thread.  My camera has taken a pretty bad beating ever since "JJ On Ice" last winter so I didn't really take too many pics with it.  I basically highjacked everyone else's camera.

But I did scan in some cool older photos from "back in the day" last week.  Might be some worthwhile in that stash, no?

These were Jack Crevalles from my days in the Everglades:

But you probably like her Jack better though, huh?

Here is the section of the EB Neversink that I lived on in the Catskills for a few years.  (we had three miles of the EB and three miles of the WB).

I love this photo:

Yeah, here's the house I lived in before I moved to Snyders Lake.  That's the EB of the 'Sink within casting distance of the porch. I beat the snot out of those brook trout daily for a few years.

An average Snake River cutthroat from my days in the Rockies:

Just a really cool random shot my buddy took one Fall afternoon in the Catskills.  I didn't even know he was in sight.  Wailed 'em that day:

Name this species?

One that made me laugh when I stumbled across it last week.  Its from a trip to Taos, N for two weeks right before I moved to Albany.

I am not really sure if any of these really qualify as good fish porn by our typical standards.  But since this thread is like three weeks old (and since I wrote it) I guess I'm not hijacking anything?

I've got some pretty sweet tarpon photos from 2000-2003 that are in my office and I still need to scan them to digital.  Some are real whoppers.

Found one photo with a 100+lber from the 'Glades this week!

Brown Trout...  Crazy right?  I thought I was pretty sharp on fish ID until I discovered these things.

"Seeforellen Browns" which are considerably different than the more typical German/Domestic browns.

The first few Seeforellens I caught in the Catskills came from the Rondout Reservoir one evening in April.  I was 100% certain that they were Landlocked Salmon that must have been flushed out the viaduct between the Neversink Reservoir (which has LL's) and the Rondout Reservoir (which does not).  I mean, I was POSITIVE!!!

I brought one home that was in pretty rough shape, found out later (from a 13yr old kid, no less) that the fish was a brown trout.  I refused to believe it for awhile, but quickly realized the little kid was right.

I am still humilated by that...

Seeforellens get huge (40lbs+) but taste like crap and fight like a wet rag...

I do think they look pretty cool though- until someone tells you its a trout

RE: The Three Amigos Spend a Weekend In "Brown Town" 2009/12/05 10:02:35 (permalink)
NJ i caught them back those days if you remember.. the dec was putting flyers under the windshield wipers about those stockings. Those days the lakers were more abundant than ever.. I had three party dude close friends and we ere all diehards, buckets of sawbellies 2.75 a dozen at franks down here in wanaque and the expensive ones up at those baitstores now long gone we use to complain when they were upped to 3.50!! huh go figure like 12 bucks a doz now! anyway.. we use to set cans through weekends on the openers. those silverly rainbowed colored seeforellens defintely have a different tint.. they look like a cross between a bt and rt imo.. i like the roundout but spend more time on the nev and more time at my camper by the pepacton. The pepacton has been showing up some impressive trophy class german bt , recent news media on tv showed about state record size laker abound in nj's roundvalley resevior.. biologist zapped up a 30+lb.laker .. i use to fish roundvalley and spruce run reseviors in nj for yrs .. alot of stockies everywhere in early 80s. I think 20-30lbs are going to be pulled out of pepacton someday, it it like a little finger lk. alot less meat hookers and with the new trophy trout regs, the fish areliving longer and growing bigger. That roundout too, knowing as you say it is the baitfish toilet bowl.
