Nice to see report on Kinzua.  Tried the tail waters twice. I think I have to go away from the dam and hit some of those deeper holes a mile or so down.

I didn't use to fish the tailrace for many years, but would take one trip and year to try it out.  Then I heard people do good from the tailrace down to the bridge in Warren.  Past 3 years I've drifted in the boat from kinzua to the bridge and have did good for trout, but not too many bass.  The few bass you catch are nice.  Lot of smaller trout most 8-11 inches still fun to catch.  The one drift between the 3 people in the boat at least 35 of them.

there are huge trout in that river but not easily caught.
I have seen ones way up in the 20's and have heard of 10lbers but that race is a tough fishery. A great place but a challenge of challenges

fished the lake for two days. fishing was tuff , lake water level was down and blue bird sky. did manage to catch some fish. mostly smallies, rock bass and some big perch. trolling with planer boards and casting lures & bait. fished east branch clarion lake on saturday for the first time. the lake is super clear and very deep saw depth of  118' plus the lake looked to be down 30 feet. caught some very nice bass on a silver bomber plug. saw some big fish chasing my lure. i could not make out what type of fish .

I just started using boards, and found them easy to us. i bought medium size boards . and use 10 - 20 lb braided line, which got my lures down 25 ft. plus.  I am going to try them on crappie in local waters.

I am planning a weekend camping/fishing trip to the Allegheny Reservoir this weekend (10/26-27), and I was wandering if anyone could lend me some advice to the walleye fishing there.  I have never fished the lake, as this will be my first trip on the lake with my new boat-19ft Ranger Walleye Boat w/ 150 merc.
In particular, what techniques produce the best for this time of year?  What areas of the lake should I concentrate on & what depths are good to target?  I'm not expecting anyone release specific spots or locations, I am simply hoping that someone will be able to provide me enough info to get pointed in the right direction.  Thanks...

lovgren69 lake levels are down.so some of the spots i fish are out . kinzua bay has some smaller bays and giant rocks. fish the rocks that are in 10'-25' slowly by using trolling motor. willow bay is near new york border and seneca reservation so special licenses . i fish the main lake and mouths of bays trolling worms an casting lures . don't try to fish the whole lake at one time . good luck

Well my first trip to Kinzua was a huge bust!  So much for for decent weather & some decent fishing.  It rained heavily pretty much all day Friday and Saturday, which wasn't the worst thing since the wind didn't slow much below 25 mph all weekend!  Fished Friday afternoon and Saturday afternoon for about 2 hours each day, or should say tried to fish-with the wind and rain it was about impossible to drift or fish with the electric, and anchoring wasn't much better.  Was shocked to find the lake down about 15 feet and no docks in place, which didn't make it fun unloading and loading the boat.  Needless to say, I didn't catch a **** thing!
Anyways, might be a sign that it's time to put the boat away for winter.  Just really wanted to get a few trips out on the new boat.  On the bright side, the new boat handled the choppy big water without much fuss.   I really need to get that kicker motor on it, as I found out the big Merc 150 idles alot too fast for trolling.  Was also lost as to where to fish on the lake, for it seemed like an endless flat across the lake without much structure.  Oh well, maybe next time I will have to get out earlier in the year and check the weather forecast more closely.
