Casting distance

I am new to center pin fishing. I have been useing the modified wallis cast.  I practice in my yard with a four gram drennan loafer which is weighted for propper ballance.  I can cast this rig approximately 40 ft with great consistancy.  I was wondering if this was a good distance for this particular set up.  I feel I should be able to cast it farther but was interested in some feedback.  I use a 13'4' G Lumis rod and an Islander Steelheader reel.  Any replies would be apprecieated.

40' is about 30' more than you'll need to fish Erie. It may not be enough to fish say the Niagara or the Salmon, but will suffice for most PA and Ny streams. Just keep at it. Distance and accuracy will come with time.

just do what I do....take your friends pin, take the float in ur left hand and happy gilmore it like a golf ball, and still catch a fish with it.

or do like mxdad and some others do. use a heavier gram float. add weight to the bottom section of the float or load up some shot below the float. the heavier weight will give you better trajectory if your casting isn't up to your own par expectation.

haha now now, I don't own a pin, I just take my friends off of them and show them how to use it, that's all....

They are by far my favorite rods to build though, that I must say.
