What do You think ??

This is a photo I took this morning while setting up my trail cam in a new position.
I believe it is a young (only about 12 feet high) wild Black Cherry Tree..
The thing I found interesting is I could not find berries like  these on any of the other trees in the area ??
Also I found it amusing that the berries are full (loaded) like this from the ground up to about 6 feet... then I could not see any that were any higher ???
There are deer in the area but obviously they are eating something else ... and the birds etc must not be interested in the berries on the lower branches..
any thoughts ???????

I must admit I was not sure about cherry... it does not look that much like the mature cherry trees in the area and as I said there are very very few cherries on those cherry trees this year.

I have packed up a couple dozen and sent them to you .. let me know if they are any good....

Don't worry, you won't die. My money is on choke cherry. Saw a tree/bush this morning that a bear had stripped of the fruit. They sure are hard on them. Racoons love them too. Not much fruit on the black cherry trees I have been glassing although I found 3 on the edge of a field that were loaded.

just checked google for half hour, hate to say this S-10, you are wrong, this is a pokeberry bush, or juneberry bush, first mentioned is argueable poisonous so they say, other is edible, either way, don't take any chances, cherry trees which have fruit which is much smaller and only grow high up in the tree..check the bark, or taste a sprig, if its real bitter its cherry..go to ask.com and search penna wild berrys..

    Doc,

Deer only eat planted food plots, corn, and c'mere deer. You should know that by now.

All kidding aside I've seen what I believe to be the same berries on my property and have never seen any sign of deer feeding on them.

Not Virginia Creeper -- that has serrated leaf edges. I think it's Silky Dogwood.

(This link isn't a great picture, but if you search for "Silky dogwood" you'll find enough images to tell that this is it.)

I would have to agree with Old Dutchman on the silky dogwood. I know they are a shrub/bush and get a blue berry also the leaves look similar to a flowering dogwood tree. Bears sure do love the pokeberries. I know of a spot where there is always purple piles left by bears.

I think I may have solved the plant type. I can't post pics here at work, but do a search on gray dogwood. It looks closest to what you pictured. Silky dogwood is typically found in wet soil.

""It is a dogwood. From what I can see I suspect it is a red osier dogwood, though I sometimes have trouble distinguishing between red osier, gray and silky dogwood ""

looks like we finally have an answer...

    It's a dogwood !!!

Here's a pic from internet (flicker) of a red osier dogwood.. I think my WCO friend hit it on the head !!!

Doc, are the edges on your leaves smooth or rough like a hacksaw?

Guys, offhand, I would say that that is one of the Buckthorns. Let me check, but I am almost sure.

Red Osier fruit is white, not dark colored.

Check the pith if it is dark colored then maybe silky dogwood.
