"Fly Tying Made Clear and Simple" was one of the first books I got and it was very good. It doesn't have a lot of patterns, but it teaches you how flies are constructed step by step and shows how to perform all the techniques. It was a very good learning tool.

I don't give a crap if anybody listens to me or not.

This sounds like what i need to study. I want to see the whole picture start to finish not just bits and pieces.

Essential Trout Flies by Dave Hughes and Creative Fly Tying by Mike Mercer. Both books have step by step instructions. The Dave Hughes book shows 31 patterns plus variations and the Mike Mercer book shows 8 in depth patterns plus variations. Hope this helps.
