New body of water

Has anyone here fished Hollister Lake in Greene County? I think you have to get a permit from the town of Athens to fish there, but it seems like there are alot of quality bass in there. If anyone has fished there do you know if you can bring any kind of boats there, either trailored or cartop?

You do need to get a permit, it is shore fishing ONLY (not a lot of shore access either) ... they are getting lots of good bass right now because it was closed for a number of years. Just opened back up for fishing. I'm about 5 minutes from there. I read the same info on the riverbasin site.

I see lots of kept bass from there ... i am c&r myself, don't care if they keep them, BUT i was wondering how does fish taste from a small shallow muddy, swampy place like that ? I would think if you wanted fish to eat keep them from a nice clear body of water ? Anybody know if it makes a difference ?

Yea it does Brian, especially in hot weather. Fish from deep clearer water are more firm and have a fresher taste I have caught fish from warm, shallow, muddy waters that I wished I would have released after eatin a bite or two. Swampy mud bottoms with heavy plant decay on bottom tend to have a fishy swampy taste.

A lure drawing the first strike of an early morning, the strong tug on the end of your line, the excitement of a leaping fish... that,s livin large!
