streamer eyes

I was planning on tying some streamers to imitate baitfish and I wanted to add 3D eyes to my patterns.  What brand do you guys recommend and what size eyes with what size hooks?

    3D molded eyes - Spirit river, size 6 or 8 hook - 2.5 mm.  Size 2 or 4 hook, 3 mm.

Prism tape eyes work very well and are cheaper.  The glue on stick on eyes will not hold on flies, stick them on with super glue, zap a gap is very good.

Favorite eye color is silver iris, black pupil for any silver colored bait fish, ex. emerald shiner.

Gannon, Like Plum Bob says, the stick on eyes will not hold witout coating them with epoxy, Here is a pic of a alewin I tie for steel. I use the stck on eyes for this pattern with a coating of epoxy and I never had any problem with their durability. Good Luck Buddy

I like the spirit river eyes, too. Mostly, 3/16 silver on patterns tied on size 2 thru 8 3x-long and up hooks.
I use super glue and then thinned clear hard head, dipped in those little plastic shot glasses, dipped again after it dries. Less messy than epoxy and UV glue but i'll use epoxy when I want to thicken up the head.
BTW, I learned not all super glue is water proof.

I tie a thunder creek style tube, emerald shiner for steelhead.  One reason why I like this fly is that it has a large head which is a good base for adding prism-stick on eyes.

Before adding eyes to the flies, I'll have 5 or 6 pretied to work with. Spirit river 2.5mm, 5/32" silver iris eyes are used.

The eyes are done like this:

    1.  Using zap a gap, glue an eye on one side of each fly, then do the other side. Doing it this way allows the glue a little extra time to set.

    2.   Using Devcon 5 min. epoxy, coat the head around but not over the eyes. Epoxy will dull reflective qualities of eyes if they are coated.  Can do 3 flies with one mix of epoxy.  Let the heads cure for 1 hour before the next step.

    3.  Final step is 2 coats of Sally Hansen's hard as nails finger nail polish. over eyes, head.

Doing streamer eyes this way is a time consuming, royal pain in the****  The results are very good and I do these in the winter when I have nothing better to do.

I'm sure there are easier, better ways to do this, this method works well for me.

Like your alevin streamer.  Rabbit is great material for a streamer wing, lots of movement.  I tie something similar, but with a red rabbit throat instead of an egg.  Mine is not an alevin but still fishes wery well.
