I've seen popper bodies at alot of fly shops I've been to, but most are panfish sized. I'd imagine a cork would work fine with a couple coats of some kind of sealer to keep out water and fill in cracks.

I usually glue my bodies to the hooks (kink shank) first, glue em in with zap-a-gap, which also is used to fill the top of the slit in the foam. After I do this, I usually let the glue have a few hours to set completely.

I just use model paint to color mine, then, after the third or fourth coat has completely dried, I give it 2 clearcoats of sally hansens. Once that's dry, it gets rubber legs, hackle tails, flash, etc.

If I ever get new camera batteries, I'll post some pics.

i have stopped fishing stryo and cork "poppers" and have gone to foam gurgler style flies

much easier to tie, better action, and more options
i think they give a better profile

they can be stripped and jerked like poppers
fast 2 handed strips to skate them
skate them with the swingin method to cover moving water

    here are some step bys
a few easy adjustments and you can make divers

i use popper flies for both smallmouth and largemouth. they work great.
we make our own using different size corks sold at trader horn.
cut a groove in the bottom of the cork and glue/cement the hook inside the groove. or you can put a spiinner shaft through the cork and attach the hook to this.
add different length feathers to the back of the hook shaft. you can paint the corks different colors and add spots. with a grinder you can shave the front down to a slant so the cork dives beneath the water.
if you want any more info on these i'll be glad to help you out.

Another place to get foam is beach flip-flops. A sharp knife is all that is needed a pair of them can be found cheep at the end of summer.
