1st Spring Bird

On saturday morning I took my father in law up to the ANF for turkey. Pulled off along side the road to listen at about 20 till 6 and heard on as soon as we opened our doors. Ended up hearing six but 2 were pretty close so we snuck in and set up between both of them. As it got daylight out I could see the tom strutting and gobbling in the tree. 5 till 6 he hit the ground with some hens. Wasn't sure if he was gonna come in untill I started purring and I think that ****ed off the hens 'cause they came in too. About a 30 yard shot and my 54 y.o. father in law became the happiest man in penns woods for the day. To make it better he was a double beard. 20 lbs, 7 3/4 & 2 1/2 beards, and 1 1/16 hooks.

Did you know the spot, or did you just stop randomly along the road?

I knew birds were in the area from listening there before season.. but I pulled the truck off the road about 1/2 mile before I wanted to but for some reason it felt right. Boy it sure was! Just so perfect how it all came together.

Yeah it was the best of all emotions, just like any other hunt but with all my father in laws been through.. for him to even be in the woods to get a chance at a bird its a real gift. And i'm so glad to be the one to help him get the nice tom. He's still talking about it and showing pics to everyone he sees.
