Chub rigging?

Hey,

Those of you who use chubs in lakes with decent success, how do you typically rig them?  Also, where at on the lake do you usually fish them?  Over by the deep ends or shallower?  At least for the spring.  I'm looking to hook into a nice spring cat this year.

Thanks,

Kai

Slip float rig keeping the chub about 1-2 feet off the bottom, hook the chub in the tail and clip its fin.

Never used them in a lake specifically for cats, use them in the river though. I agree with MM, clip some of the fins, makes them swim harder and leaves more of a scent trail.

i just tryed cutting fins and scraping some scales on my bait, and i really can't say that its better than just hooking them and let them fly. this is just imo, but as far as hooking chubs or any live bait i go behind the dorsol fin.

your "game fish" is my bait.....got flathead!!

I agree with moose22dog,behind the dorsal fin and back a little.I don,t go in for the clipping the fins stuff either.I feel the better shape your baits in,the longer it,s gonna stay lively out there. When that chub sees a 25# flat bearing down on his****he,s gonna get as lively as he can for the rest of his relatively short life!

I tend to put it in the dorsal fin and another hook in the lips.  I've had decent success rigging them, just no success getting the cats to hit it.  Fish along the shore or out further in the spring?
