Counting the days!

Well now that the night time striper bite is coming to an end and with me not being into chasing the chrome... all I really have to look forward to is an invitation to fish Erie and the winter ice!  Last year, once we finally got the ice, it ended up being one of the best years in recent memory to consistently get out on the hard stuff.  I think a big slab through the ice on those little rods is about as fun as fishing gets! FLAG!!!...Can't wait!

I don't know if I'm counting the days, lots of fish to catch before then. But yes, definitely looking forward to it.

Got on a buddies boat today out of Geneva.  What a gorgeous day!  Weather could not have been any better plus the four of us brought home 22 eyes (lost 5 or 6), 4 perch, and one steelhead.  So as of today I am content with summer!!!

Nice pics Stillhead.  Where do you do most of your ice fishing?

Thanks so much for the halibut Troy!  Got it tonight and thawing it now for dinner tomorrow.  I think Leeburn was pretty jealous!  He said he kept one package for a "middleman fee"!  Much appreciated, I owe you one!
Heard you had a disappointing perch trip Saturday.  I went Monday with my aunt and cousin on the Victory and caught 7 perch between the 3 of us!  What boat were you on?

You don't owe me anything Mick, I'm glad you liked it. I went out on the victory saturday, there was some white perch and sheephead caught but the perch fishing was very slow. Thats ok it was a nice day for a boat ride.
Getting back on the topic, where do you usually icefish? I fish everywhere but spend most of my time at moraine

I fish Moraine mostly as well.  I know that lake the best with regard to structure and depth, so that is where I end up.  I usually fish the 528 side of the lake.  I have been trying this spring and summer to identify some good spots to hit this winter on Shenango.  I would really like to get up there more this season.  You ever ice fish there?

I like to fish shenango. It's good for slabs in the 10-12" range. I usually walk out of golden run until I start marking the christmas trees, usually about 10' deep. I got into some pike there early this spring I'm hoping they will be in the same spot this winter, maybe late ice

Yeah...definately large numbers of nice crappies in Shenango, but I have yet to catch a big slab there in the 14'' plus range.  This past winter on the ice and in the early spring at Moraine I caught quite a few 14'' plus and a couple over 15'' pushing 16''.  I too ran into some pike at both Moraine and Shenango in the early spring.  Quite a bit a fun reeling into those slimy toothy critters on 4 pound test with an ultralight!!!
