Dipsy diver question

I am just starting to use the dipsy diver. My ? is how far do I set back the spinner or the plug from the dipsy. I will be fishing for walleye. Any other help you can give me on the use of the dipsies would be great.
Thanks

6-8ft is about standard...Usually no longer than the rod you are using.

Thanks for the tips. I never used dipseys before I'm going to have to get use to them.
