I havent seen it yet, but I would bet 85 % of done! With the wind added to the high temps and rain, I'm sure the shore ice is gone! But I'm sure you can find some protected spots left around Horseshoe, Lagoons, or Marina lake!

For my fishing reports, product reviews, stories, and other nonsense...

I just read a report on iceshanty that said the head of the bay broke up last night. I'm not sure if that is true or not but if it is that really sux and doesnt look like we're going to get really cold temps next week. I know I'm hoping for it to lock back up bring on the perch and forget about the steelhead.

Sounds like the bay is done for the year. Unless it gets really cold again... I guess I'll have to pray for the cold weather to come back just without the snow this time.

Our prayers for cold will probably be off set by the ones praying for warm temps for steelhead

Chautauqua is fine.  There are some areas where the shore is a little punky, but otherwise looks great.  The main ice is still about a foot thick.  Obviously, stay away from the creek mouths.

took a ride around the bay...no ice except after we passed east pier.it was piled higher than the truck . i didnt have camera with me ,but im helpin at the s.o.n.s. event tommorrow at the ponds and will grab sum pix. found 1 guy fishin .misery and marina lake didnt get to bad ,they still need sum time but nuthing compared to the bay ! the neat thing about the " mountains " of ice down there was the bottom of the slabs were blueish green ,like glacier ice. the slabs looked about 7inch thick and you could tell they were thrown around like rag dolls. i knew wind was powerful , but this really opened our eyes. i remember someone on here talking about wind being so powerful it was crushing the ice up against the shore...now ive got an idea what it looked like! my boy said... looks like the winds came this way..huh...i said i think so buddy..lol

My buddy fished off the public dock with no success then to south pier with the same results. Saw 2 fellows fishing in the marina on the ice. Just think there are way too many minnows in the bay to get a good bite these days. With the restrictions on catching minnows in NY & OH the minnow population is getting over populated. Even here there are only 4 - 5 stores catching bait and I'm sure they only put a tiny micro dent in the minnow population. Just food for thought.

This afternoon there was a thin veil of ice from about the 2nd parking lot to well past the ranger station with some spots of open water...about a dozen people fishing the west end of the Marina and another dozen or so fishing the north edge of Misery Bay....didn't get to Horseshoe....also saw a hut across the bay by Chestnut St.

You wont believe this but on my way back from 16 mile this afternoon there were 2 huts off of Chestnut! One a hundred yards out and to the left by the marina wall and one all the way out in the dead middle! There was open water there just two to three days ago. How thick could the ice possibly be?  He made it back ok I went down and checked and he was just getting back. I should of stopped to talk but who knows what I would of said so I didnt.

Hey i was just wondering how thick the ice is because when i went by the bay this afternoon the were probably a half dozen guys scattered across the bay off of chestnut. Oh yeah just a personal opinion is that you select few a freaking NUTS to be out there on that ice.

Remember, there are two kinds of fishermen, those that fish for sport and those that catch something.

Drove out on PI this morning , there was no huts out on PI side of bay. Saw a few guys in the marina and thats it. Did not drive to misery or hoarseshoe areas. From PI side I did not see any off chestnut either.

At this point, I would make a guess to say the ice is done...Most likely for the year!

The bay is wide open boys, some ice on marina and misery. Park rangers were trying to get an ice fisherman off the marina as I drove by. It reached around 53 today with rain most of the day and strong winds. Put the ice fishing stuff away and get the boats ready.

Plenty of ice on most inland lakes and the ice will be even thicker by the end of the weekend.

Went by at the dock yesterday & talked to a fellow that told me his buddy was stright out off the Public Dock and was fishing in 8" of ice. Plus there were about 4 people out running around on the ice. I may give it a go today. Looked like very good ice off the dock. The west end ice did not look like good ice, more like the area off Liberty St. Looked sort of tinted with a big swirll all the way across to PI.

From the head of the bay to Chestnut st boat launch is open water. Yes there is still some ice but it is receeding fast. I will be in the boat tomorrow and not on the ice. Three just died in 60 degree water, dont push your luck with 35 degree water.
