High Point Lake

Has anyone fished High Point lately?  I was thinking of doing some hardwater angling this weekend and am looking for a report...

I fished it on monday from 8 till 1:30. I had 2 flags and landed one pike 23 1/2 inchs. I was out by the barn on the north side. Ice was about 13 inchs thick. Did see a couple of fellows in closer on the south side and they seemed to have more flags than i did. I did see them land a nice size pike as i came off the lake.  Hope to get back up there friday.

Located in southern Somerset County near Mount Davis, the highest point in Pennsylvania, High Point Lake is a 338-acre impoundment owned by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and maintained by the Fish and Boat Commission for public fishing and boating.

I went up there about every weekend so far this month. Catching a couple legal chain pickerels, few undersized Northerns only caught three legal ones so far this year, and panfish. Its drained quite a bit this year.

I would say its fishable haven't been there in a week and a half last time I was on it 16" of ice. I might try to make it up this weekend unless I get called into work.

    Hey Mountain,

Is High Point completely free of ice yet?

Haven't been up to check that lake lately.... I'd say it should be opened by now.

    Yes.

You can't launch a boat yet though.

How low is it yet?  Think the draw down will help the fishing?

I'd guess it's about 7 feet low. There is a sign at the top of the south launch "no vehicles beyond this point" so i quess they don't want anyone trying to launch from the mud.

Ice fishing was terible for me on my 5 trips but hopefully the drawdown will help.
