how to rig paste bait for trout

What is the best way to rig paste bait for trout?  Is it better on a tip-up or a jigging rod?  Going trout fishing at a local lake this Friday.  Never fished for trout thru the ice.  Any info would be great.  Thanks

    i fish the putty on a tip up but u can fish it on a rod with putting an indicator with it at the top of ur hole but bein that it floats u dont have to jig it mini foos tiped with maggot /power worms on a jig head 
    jiggin them off the bottom will catch u trout
