misery bay crappies

ran into a guy a `smitties` bait shop
he said he had caught 21 huge crappies at misery
when asked what huge was he said fist sized
to bad his hands were small
have to be at least 9 in ny state to begin to keep them

    That's one of the reasons I don't fish the bay...every time I go up there I see guys hauling sleds full of 7" crappie and 5" gills and perch thinking they've found the motherlode.  I know it's legal, but it still bothers me.  It also happens at other places as well, but it seems worse on PI.

    wow that is terible that they would keep a fist size crappies.

    bums me out to see that! I rarely keep fish and if I do it is a meal or two and that is it!    How about those 9 inch crappies?

    Nothing wrong with a 9" crappie. The black ones at shenango have some thick fillets on them. The white ones are a lot thinner tho. The white ones need to be a little bigger for me to keep.

    Have caught several crappie from Misery Bay and not a one of them was under 10in.
