There may be limited spots of good ice in some of the smaller coves or at the head. The "main" bay has good ice if your a duck.

yep...not worth it.... i heard horseshoe is the only one that has substantial ice, but still a little thin.  Just wait until next weekend... high temps of like 15 throughout the week up here in Erie.

Slick, we will have to get together some time.  I'm alway up for fishing, never iced but know a lot of ppl that do.

i was thinking more in the spring, don't see the idea of sitting on frozen water waiting for fish to swim by....lol... rather make 1000 casts into cover to lure that large lipped fish out and watching it explode the water.... we will definitely have to get together

Fished the main bay on Saturday and it was OH MY GOD COLD.  Did not have any luck at all, no bites what so ever, talked to a couple of guys and it was the same story, must have been too cold for even the fish.  Ice was about 10 inches.

Is there any open water near the channel inlet to the lake by the walls.  I don't like to go out on ice but am interested in trying for some burbot.
Also, does anyone have any info on the houses that are on barges out by the coast guard? Do these ever come up for sale?  Are they pulled out in the winter.  I was up there this summer and saw these for the first time.  Can anyone build one of these and put it in the water?  Does anyone live in these yearround?
    thanks

The house boats are permanent they dont get pulled in the winter. As far as building one, no go Only thing that can be done is repair remodel an exsisting one there. If it should happen to be removed it cannot be replaced. Years and years ago they were in misery bay the remaining ones were all taken to horseshoe pond. Never seen one for sale myself but i would imagine you would need some serious $$$$ to even touch one

BTW a bit late in the season for bourbot and i would assume the channel refroze by now

Thanks for the responses.  I found those houseboats interesting.  I will have to wait for next year for the burbot.

The houseboats are under a grandfather clause. You can't build anymore (only remodel)! Once it's gone, it's gone!
I would LOVE to own one, that's for sure!
