Spin reel vs baitcaster reel question

Was talking with some guys I fish with the other day and the discussion of spin reels vs baitcasters came up. The main question was why are most spin reels set up to reel with your left hand and most baitcasters you reel with your right hand? It seems to make sense to set the hook with your dominate arm and reel with the other, which for most right handers the spin reel set up would make sense? I wasn't sure what reason to give other than most professionals use the right hand set up so there must be something to it. Personally I bought a left handed baitcaster so there was no difference for me. Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Alot of guys nowadays are going with the left hand set up on their baitcasters.  Personally i've had right handed set ups since i was 10 years old on my  baitcasters so it just came naturally to me.  Alot of guys just feel more comfortably the other way.  Throwing for hours with musky plugs having the right hand retrieve is the only way i could do it..

Wasn't sure if there was something to the right hand or if it was just a matter of getting used to the right handed baitcaster b/c left handed hasn't readily been available as right handed. See a lot of reel makers are offering left handed models. Wonder if u will see pros switch of since they are so used to right handed and so conditioned to that they wouldn't switch.

When I bought my fist baitcaster years ago I was sold a Left handed model and never knew it unitil i went to purchase another.

I personally like the left handed ones mainly because I dont have to switch hands after every cast.

I would think you'd have to switch twice. I don't know about others, but unlike a spin outfit I don't retrieve a baitcaster using the same hand position as I cast with. To use a lefthand crank, I would have to switch the rod to my left hand, then back to the right in the new position.
