Cochranton

Hey, I got a quick question.  What is the name of that waterway that runs under 79North (The swamp) right at the Cochranton exit.  I know it spills into French Creek, but was wondering if anyone ever fished the swamp itself, and if so if it is any good.  We took a ride up that way last weekend and dropped a few lines where there was no ice but caught or saw nothing.  Just curious if anyone has ever fished it, what it's called, any info would be good.

Happy New Year everyone.

    Geneva swamp.

Bass, Bowfin, and Carp to name a few. Not easily accesible. PLEASE do not wade, there is serious muck, and quick sand.

There's some pike and panfish also in geneva swamp.  Amen on wading. used to hunt waterfowl in the swamp and you can go from solid ground to stuck in one step.  if you fish in the summer, use plenty of mosquito repellent.

It's funny Gizmo, because one of the first things I thought about when they mentioned wading was there's no way I'm going to have my face that close to the water when there has to be tons of water snakes in there!  I live with the Misquito repllent, so that won't be a problem.

    Thanks for the info!!!

Gonig 79 north get off the exit and turn right (Towards Cochranton). Go about a mile or 2 there will be a barn on th right and a dirt road on the left. Turn down the dirt road to the little black bridge (the spillway) I have caught many of fish there Pike Bass and lots of Bowfins. You can put the boat in there or go continue down the road and turn left. There is a little boat ramp under the other end of the swamp. Look as your crossing the 79 bridge you will see the road going under the bridge.

rumor has it there are also a few massassauga rattlesnake around the marsh too!! Some nice pike, find the right pocket monster bluegills, also I've heard good channel catfishing if you can find a deeper stretch during daylight, probably good for cats anywhere at night, but you'll never find me down there after dark in the summer!!!
