Spring Thaw

So the plan is to try and make it out to Erie in early December before the tribs start to freeze over.  If the money is there I will do just that, but if not when is a good time frame to shoot for to try and get out there before the end of the run and after the thaw?  Also, same type of fishing applies?? Egg sacks, minnies, jigs or are they after something different by then?  Thanks for your in put.  EJA

Any time the stream is not iced over is a good time to go, most of my best days have been in the cold of the winter (Dec-Mar). Also, stream flow and color are usually more stable in the winter along with thin crowds. My favorite flies are pink or white suckers and orange yarn eggs.

assuming you're using a pin, yeah the same bait and flies apply no matter what month it is, of course depending on water flow, clarity, etc.

from december thru march, it can either be good or not so good.  some years the creeks hardly freeze at all, some years you're not fishing for 2 months.  last year we got up to erie a couple times in february but that may not be true this year.
