Sweet. I like to use two strands of braid (or just make a loop) and put a strand of globug yarn in between the two .. or no particular reason.
There's probably some addict right now checking this out because it came up on a google search for "METH".
You got him all excited.. Poor fella.

the single strands look a bit sparse...
i might do some double strands/loops... and maybe a pinch of white yarn for a halo.... good idea

I'm not gonna lie. I was disappointed. KJH, single strands #14 and smaller. double, or loops #12 and bigger. Oh, and you can make fancy little sparkle tails too!!!! "Ghetto Booty" as my friend calls it. "Hey, you have any more of those eggs with the ghetto booty?"

That's pretty funny.
It all seriousness I think a lot of steelhead strikes has to do with fly visibility with the given water color at the time, rather than fly color. I do feel adding a piece of yarn between the loop of the braid increases visibility. It's no surprise, this seems to help chartruese (darker water color) the most.

Oh no...now google can grab the phrase "cooking up" in this thread too! I'm going to have to get some of this braid and try my hand at it. I just started to tie SS this week and, not to toot my own horn, but I "got it" pretty quick, and they're starting to look good...uniform too! If only I had a lifetime supply of 135s...

Nice tie! Steelhead flies are some of the easiest flies to tie and fun. I like the double strand better, however.

I used to tie them and sucker spawn on bigger #6-10 3906 hooks for NY,,, but now, I find wrapping estaz and dubbing looped yarn bodies easier.

flat diamond braid is the best for this application and as i mentioned 3906 or 3906b mustads will do the job
but tied on a 2x long 2x heavy scud looks a lil better but what does the fish know?

I like to weight them with a beadhead. Fish USA has an assortment of colored beads peach, pink, chartreuse etc that really set the fly off...Does it catch more fish??????????? I don't know...but it looks good.
