TREESTANDS

I was wondering how high is to high?We usally try to hang lock-ons at 22 to 25 feet and when we use climbers about the same maybe a little bit higher.

    If that works for you.  I avoid climbing so high that I'm out of bow range.  Depends on the tree and the ground I'm watching.

    14-18 feet for us...20 feet and over seems to make too much of a down angle shot for me...

    I read an article the other day that said you would have to be 60ft in the air to change your trajectory anything significantly. That even then, a 15 yrd shot would really only be 22yrds.

    It depends on the surrounding cover. Early season i dont go as high because i dont want to be in the tree tops.

    Just my opinion but both my son and I go 15 to maybe 22ft. max. I don't like shooting at a sharp downward angle, too many variables to contend with especially your own position and how you bend for that type of shot. Once you start to bend at the waist a lot of dynamics change.

    I still shoot the old Terminator pendulum sight, I go as high as possible.....

    Better too far back, than too far forward.

    Wouldn't you just go as high as the tree starts to branch out to break up your silouette?  That could be anywhere from 10 to 30+ feet.

    I agree with Wally. 15 al least, 22 max. Angles mess with me especially in ravine or on hillsides where you could have a level shot from 22 foot up to a drop of more than 40 ft if the deer is on the downhill side of your stand.

    i have shot many buck with the bow 13 ft  is the base of the platforme and they never knew what hit them through the lungs i have only had two buck spot me.

    Quit ****ing and take a kid fishing !!

    Occasionally though when I do take to the trees I climb 18-20' cause thats how long my pull-up rope is.

    Good observation danesdad, most of my stands are placed based on where I can hide best, but none are below 20'.  You can get away with more up there.
