strong jigheads

I'm looking to purchase small jig heads to tie for steelhead. Like maybe size 8 or 10 in about 1/64th or smaller. Does anyone know of any that are strong enough to use for steelhead?

Never used em on steel, but  I've had good success with the Trout Magnet jigheads.  1/64, sz. 10 or 12, shiny silver, gold, or flat black, with a specially shaped head.

I tried my trout magnets last season with no luck.  I was disappointed because I really expected them to do well since they spell death to trout.

I gave up on finding any that were strong enough. I started tying lead eyes on a longer nymph hook. They ride upside down like a clouser but they work fine.

The trout magnets will straighten out on a steelhead above 24" under normal circumstances. Just like using a really small fly, you can land bigger fish on them, you just have to be very careful.

Some people are like Slinkies...not really good for anything, but you still can't help but smile when you see one tumble down the stairs.

You can use smaller cyclops beads if you choose. I have done so with
some of the ones I did. PS: I use the Micro kit

Yeah, I gotta agree with tommy here.  I've never fished steelhead, but I've accidentally caught 20"+ bass on little wal-mart cheap hooks and if you know how to play a fish, you shouldn't be straightening any hooks.  Its about the same as fishing for large trout with an ultralight.  No its no the strongest, but yes it can be done if you know what you're doing.

Thanks so much for the replies! Some very helpful insight on this so far. I did read the other post on jigs, but it really did not address my question, so I thought I would start this post. I like the idea of using eyes as a substitute for a jig. If I use a hook that has the eye of the hook pointing up ( same direction as the point of the hook ) will it float with the point of the hook up? Does the weight then go on the bottom side of the hook? I know this may be pretty basic for some of you, but since I don't know, I thought I would ask.... :)

If your referring to turned up eye or turned down eye hooks i don't think it will make a difference. If you put the weighted eyes on top of the hook shank the point will ride up. If you put the weighted eyes underneath the hook will ride point down but the gap of the hook point will be less and a problem.

I've even used real short shank hooks (like a large salmon egg hook) when tying marabou flies for steelies. The fly/jig ended up about 2 1/2 inchs long and the short shank hook worked just as good without having the maribou wing tangle with the hook shank

I didn't see this mentioned exactly... don't miss the option of putting the lead eyes on the bare jig hooks.  Tie them on the bottom right under the 90 with figure 8s and use a super glue to keep it from spinning.  This should get you real close to a horizontal presentation if you're drifting - will the clouser-type (eyes on a regular hook)?  I've caught a few steel with these.  I haven't done it that often, but it almost seemed like they preferred the unpainted eyes.  I'm 99% sure it was a sz 10 hook and med (1/30) eyes.  I haven't done it too often, because I'm not sure its worth the trouble to do all of these different jig creations - it is fun, though.
